About Me

I'm Thomas Murphy, a qualified counsellor based in Loughrea, Co. Galway. I hold a BSc in Counselling from IICP College Dublin and specialize in person-centered therapy, helping clients understand how their thoughts influence their emotional wellbeing.

I am dedicated to helping clients work through anxiety, depression, interpersonal challenges, and men's mental health issues. My approach is compassionate, professional, and tailored to each individual's needs.

Beyond counselling, I have a deep passion for music with over 35 years of experience in playing and teaching. I've witnessed firsthand how music can be a powerful therapeutic tool for emotional expression and healing.

I also believe strongly in the connection between physical and mental wellbeing, which I nurture through regular cycling and walking in nature.

Services

I offer flexible counselling services in-person, by phone, or online to best suit your needs. Below are the therapeutic approaches and areas of expertise I specialize in to support your mental health journey.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a proven therapeutic approach that helps you understand and transform the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through structured sessions, we'll work together to identify unhelpful thought patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and create positive behavioral changes. CBT is particularly effective for managing anxiety, depression, stress, and other mental health challenges, empowering you with lifelong tools for emotional wellbeing.

Support for Carers

I offer counselling services to those who are carers for an elderly or disabled loved one and need someone to talk to. Having personally experienced the mental toll of being a carer for my mother, I understand the unique challenges and emotional strain involved. I provide a compassionate space to explore these feelings and develop strategies for maintaining mental health and well-being.

Person Centred Therapy

Person-centered therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, is a supportive approach that places you at the center of your therapeutic journey. Built on the belief that every person has the capacity for growth and self-understanding, this therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences freely. Through empathetic listening and genuine dialogue, we work together to help you discover your own solutions and path forward.
